In previous versions you had to record-enable the track for MIDI input to become active, which mean that it was a one-click solution. I agree that the UI for this needs improvement, it's still evolving. Of course, I realize there is a limited amount of user interface space and decisions have to be made about which kinds of buttons are placed on each track. Still, it sure would be more convenient if there was a button for this purpose on each track on the mixer page.
